[Artiste Biograpghy - ANANSEWA]

Anansewa, popularly known as Granny or Grannie was born in Agona Swedru. Agona Swedru is a town and the capital of Agona West Municipal District in the Central Region of Ghana. As it is the case with most musicians, Anansewa become interested in music very early in her life mainly after junior high school. Her earliest inspirations were of course the wide variety of music around her especially, highlife music and old folk music by Ghanaian artists like Ben Brako, Rex Gyamfi, Pat Thomas, Paapa Yankson, Rex Omar, Kofi Larbi and The Precious Jewels, CK Mann, Kojo Antwi, Daddy Lumba and many others. Anansewa was also inspired by African continental and international musicians like Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, Lee Scratch Perry, U Roy, Miriam Makeba, Manu Dibango, Angelique kijo, Yvoune Chaka Chaka, Gill Scott, Lauren Hill, the Japanese Singer Anyango and so many others. Anansewa’s singing style is a reflection of these cross generational Pan African musical influences.

In 2000 at a studio called Skills Multimedia, Anansewa met Obuor, k.k Fosu. Kokoveli. These individuals and many others gave the upcoming artist so much energy and encouragement and a lot of challenge she became eager to do music professionally. The crucial threshold came in the form of a legendary figure in Ghana and West African music scene, the late Faisal Halwani of Bibini Records. Thanks to Faisal, Anansewa’s first collaboration was with Rymebo of Miepo Records in 2002, and in 2003 she recorded her first album with a producer called John Dee of studio A1. Subsequently Anansewa met a girl called Latifah Lamid and they formed the famous group LA and recorded the album with the hit single “Ogya” featuring Obour. Other songs like Kafumgbe featuring K. K Fosu and other songs followed in 2004. The album was eventually released in 2005 under the Prince Dave Record group. Despite their initial success LA broke up shortly after the unfortunate death of their producer. Since then Anansewa has collaborated with various producers, musicians and have featured in many popular releases like the remix of killing the Game by Obour and Okyeame Kwame and so many others. Her upcoming single Heaven was co-written by Kingsley Oppong and the classical Highlife guitarist Yaw 40.

In 2010, Anansewa joined the Blackstar Enigmatic family and the experience has given her the chance to learn more of the kind of music she wants to make. As she so famously put: I can say that in Blackstar Enigmatic I found my reincarnated self because music carries with it inspiration, introspection, melancholy and a lot of happiness from the past. Music to me means a cross road of communication across time and cultures and a way of expressing a long line of selves that reincarnate infinitely. Those looking for time travel should just listen to music”
Blackstar Enigmatic Collective is therefore proud to introduce a new form of African Music; we call PAM…Pan African Music for a new generation.

Our goalin Blackstar Enigmatic is to move African music towards a new direction: away from the “Afro-robot Pop” or the Jim Crow sock-puppet parody dominating the air waves. In sum, our goal is to end the dominance of what our CEO, Abamieda himself calls: “shayo and ashawo” music, perhaps in homage to the legendary Fela Kuti,
